Car + Bluetooth = Car Talkie...
ok, this is quite an old idea of mine, ummm... say at least 6 years... but back in those days I was thinking with analogue, now let's get digital... so the idea would be old wine in new bottle...
How about having a voice communicator running on bluetooth (let's call it bt)? Yep, in usa, they got CB radio in trucks & all but here I'm talking about every single car being equipped with it. So what I'm talking about is:
1. Voice Communicator (half-duplex or full duplex)
2. Bluetooth as the carrier - 10 metre to 100 metre radius
3. A on screen display to show cars available within range
I think this can have a good impact on our driving life. I can think of a few examples already...
a. I read in an article by Md Zafar Iqbal that, he was driving on a highway, in USA, then there was this car that came right beside them & started honking horn. He looked at them & saw this paper stuck on their windshield saying one of the back doors was not closed properly. Their speed was more than 100km/h & that car took quite a risk to help our dear writer. If they had this "Car Talkie" then as soon as the cars were within range, they could just hit a button and say it.
b. Sometimes we go to places in groups, with a few cars - this could cut down cellphone bills. Even better, car to car communication is possible even if there's no cellphone carrier network :)
c. When stuck in a jam - this could be a nice way to meet new ppl, lol
d. Sometimes I feel that horns are the only thing in car that hasn't changed since these four wheelers started rolling out... this Car Talkie can do more than that, you can actually ask the car infront of you to move a bit left or right, instead of honking horn and complex blinking signals :)
I think it's also possible to find out which car is at which side, so the screen can graphically display the car positions. Each car can have it's own name, but I like the idea of having your licence plate number but that's totally my opinion.
So, there it goes, an idea resting in my head for more than half a decade, finally came out crawling here... As far as my knowledge on electronics and software - this is very possible right now. May be some electronic engineering student can take it up as his/her final year project, who knows...
Plz leave your comment about my ideas, criticisms are most welcome...
Have a nice day...

technology is not always blessing..the idea here seems to me cursing rather than blessing ...
u know why??
1. it would help criminals immensely..needless to explain why i guess!
2. pranking, distrubing, teasing would be so easier that even a HABAGOBA boy (like u hehehe:P)wud dare to try :)
3.Noise is a big factor in every way of communication. In this case noise gonna play a big role ...otherwise, trust me seat in PG hospital will be booked in no time !!
so far these r the things came from my head after skimming thru the article.

This sounds super cool...as here in Scandinavia, honking is BAD. Its like slapping someone in the middle of a nice conversation. So BT cars sounds cool...but I hope u know that Ipod uses FM for podcasting...which I used while we went out with few of our friends cars...one car has the Ipod...and the others cud tune in FM...can ur BT be replaced by FM? Lemme know... :) In that case that can be done withing few months...

everytime there's a technical enhancement - there's bad use of it... for example, encrypted email is one of the most popular thingy among mafia org - that's not stopping the world, right? There'll be pranks, true, but I can see the +ve side more than -ve :)
About noise - you can always have a noise reduction unit built in. These units takes the surrounding noise from a mic and then removes that from the outgoing sound.

Thanx bro :) I like the IDEABase concept - I'd like to help in anyway I can.

Just came back from singapore - I know what you mean about honking. No - BT uses a different frequency and everything is digitally encrypted, so it'll not interfare with those FM radio waves. And if you want this using FM - which I thought of first, my analogue idea - got some downside. Like - when you talk - it'll be like a broadcast, not a peer to peer talk - which is no different than the CB radio used in USA.
To: Silver Spy Monk:
Hey, BT has a range of 100M - so even if some1 drive by FAST, you can talk for at least for a while... Just think of yourself stuck in a jam... rest in upon your imagination ;)
